The Challenge
In 2012, administrative staff in the City of Markranstädt, Germany, began looking for a new CAFM system that would better support them in managing the city’s buildings. They wanted a solution that was mobile-capable, could be customized to fit specific user needs, was easy to use, and could be expanded without extensive programming knowledge.
Ideally, they also wanted a solution that could be used for more than just building management. A system that could centralize everything from inventory management to greenspace maintenance would go a long way in advancing administrative capabilities. Luckily, VertiGIS FM had everything they were looking for!
The Solution
With built-in functionalities for centralizing facility management tasks, and a future-driven, web-based design, VertiGIS FM was the perfect choice for the City of Markranstädt’s new CAFM. Once VertiGIS FM had been introduced as a facility management system, features were gradually added to support varying areas of digital governance. For instance, in the area of energy management, a metering feature was added to store information about heat, electricity, and water usage in city owned buildings. Using web transmission features, individual metering points could be automatically read via a MUC box.
Non-administrative staff also benefited from VertiGIS FM. Within buildings, janitors were equipped with smartphones and laptops that allowed them to quickly record meter data directly on site helping to save time. With this data, graphical visualizations of the city’s energy use could be built to make comparisons over time and identify consumption patterns. By analyzing energy use, potential savings could be identified, consumption could be optimized, and long-term costs could be reduced. If abnormalities are observed, solutions could be implemented, and errors could be rectified easier than ever before.
The Result
VertiGIS FM has proven to be an asset for the City of Markranstädt. As a central hub for facility management, city administrators can access the data they need and create reports (energy balances, trend calculations, cost statements etc.) at the push of a button. When defective equipment is identified, VertiGIS FM makes it easy to assign tasks and send notifications to maintenance teams. The completion status of assigned work can be viewed at all times, making it easy to identify what needs to be done and by whom.
