Stadtwerke Baden-Baden – Future-Proof Connectivity with VertiGIS Networks

All New Articles

Migration lays the foundation for a seamless, integrated, and web-based GIS platform for all utility sectors

Stadtwerke Baden-Baden is fundamentally modernizing its GIS and network management landscape. The objective is to establish a future-proof, integrated platform for the utility sectors of electricity, gas, water, and district heating using VertiGIS Networks. The existing system landscape will be gradually replaced and fully migrated to a modern, web-based GIS platform.

The starting point is highly favorable: the City of Baden-Baden and the Utilities’ Technical Waste Management Division already operate well-established GIS structures based on Esri technology. The migration from the legacy system to VertiGIS Networks is currently being implemented by Baral Geohaus-Consulting, a long-standing VertiGIS partner. This will create a centralized, web-based data and work environment that integrates all utility sectors and enables modern, end-to-end network management.

At the core of the solution are VertiGIS Networks Editor and VertiGIS Networks Explorer as the primary user applications, complemented by VertiGIS Studio Mobile to support mobile field service operations.

The project includes the structured migration of existing data to the new platform, alongside the optimization of data maintenance and network documentation processes in collaboration with Baral Geodatenmanagement. During the transition phase, a Data Bridge ensures reliable system integration and continuity between the old and new environments.

The rollout is planned in several phases, from installation and configuration to training, testing, and final production deployment scheduled for next year.
