The Challenge
When the City of Plauen’s administrative staff began experiencing challenges with their facility management system, they knew it was time to upgrade to a new, modern system. They began looking for a solution that would allow them to digitalize administrative tasks, centralize information, and support device-independent work. They also wanted a solution that would help them to simplify and speed up internal communications.
The Solution
In 2006, VertIGIS FM was chosen as a modern solution for facility management. In 2012, the success of VertiGIS FM led to the adoption of additional VertiGIS technology throughout the city, including a system for managing the city’s lighting infrastructure. This new lighting system helped to centralize and replace outdated processes for storing lighting information.
In 2016, VertiGIS FM was used to carry out a complete inventory of all municipal lighting equipment, public ticketing machines, bus stops, billboards, and other relevant assets. Today, information relating to distribution boxes, support systems, connection points and cables is also tracked and stored using VertiGIS FM.
Not only is VertiGIS FM helping to centralize data, but it’s also being used to manage the 380 buildings and 5,400 land parcels owned by the city and manage information relating to tenancies, equipment, IT, meter reading, and security. With VertiGIS FM, processes for spatial visualization have been improved. Objects in city maps are mapped according to GPS positions making them more accurate. Photos and documents can be added to maps when needed to support the identification of specific assets.
The Result
Investing in VertiGIS FM software has paid off for the City of Plauen and has brought them one step closer to a digital future. Information stored in VertiGIS FM is easily accessible to the city employees that need it, and role-based authorizations are being used to secure sensitive data. Integrations between VertiGIS products have allowed the city to expand facility management possibilities and are helping to accelerate internal work processes. “VertiGIS FM creates a whole new quality for everyone and saves time in daily work,” says IT Coordinator Dietmar Hiergeist.
