Increasing efficiency and transparency: How WABCO is revolutionizing its maintenance processes

Commercial vehicle technologies and systems company chooses VertiGIS FM to help keep their operations running smoothly

WABCO is one of the world’s leading suppliers of systems and technologies to enhance the safety and efficiency of commercial vehicles. The company develops electronic, mechanical and mechatronic technologies for the braking, stability, suspension and automatic drive systems used in heavy commercial vehicles. Headquartered in Brussels, WABCO employs 16,000 people in 40 countries.

The Challenge

Back in 2011, those responsible for maintenance at WABCO were looking for new software that would meet the high requirements in production maintenance and building management. Maximum flexibility was particularly important, in order to map the company’s special requirements. It was also imperative to be able to customize the configuration of the user interface, so that relevant information could be called up quickly.

The Solution

In 2012, WABCO started monitoring machines and production facilities with facility management solutions from VertiGIS (then KMS Computer). Since then, machine maintenance, i.e. fault messages, periodic maintenance and inspections, building technology, project planning and warehouse management have been managed with VertiGIS FM.

As part of the software implementation, workflows were optimized, and maintenance plans were standardized and brought into a stock format. By standardizing the device structures, complete maintenance strategies can now be created, instead of individual measures. Mandatory and/or recurring measures are planned in advance and cannot be forgotten.

More than 5,000 work orders are now successfully processed with VertiGIS FM every month. 750 employees across all sites use the software in their work.

The Result

With far greater transparency and availability, response times in the event of production disruptions have been significantly shortened. The causes of damage are now determined and analyzed more quickly, based on comparable damage patterns. Daily reporting supports conclusions with facts, figures and data. This makes it possible to quickly determine when and where faults occurred and what action was taken by relevant employees. Thanks to these evaluations, recurring faults are immediately visible, downtime and repair costs are significantly reduced, and the necessary working time has been cut by a third.

“It was the right decision,” says Maintenance Coordinator Thorsten Seegers,” VertiGIS FM has proven its worth for building management and maintenance over many years. The high adaptability of a web-based solution that combines building technology and maintenance in one software is exactly what we were looking for.”
