The district of Schwandorf, Germany, is breaking new ground in digital administration for its approximately 152,000 inhabitants. After almost two decades of successfully operating the WebOffice WebGIS application, based on the Esri ArcGIS Server, the district is now switching to the modern technology of ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal with VertiGIS Studio Web. This upgrade enables the use of future-proof and scalable web applications that address and sustainably improve complex spatial issues in administration.
Key objectives of moving to VertiGIS Studio Web
A central goal of the changeover is to provide powerful and scalable web applications for administration. With the VertiGIS Studio modules and the seamless integration into ArcGIS Enterprise, the district meets the requirements of the digital transformation. Thanks to the new VertiGIS Access Control user management system, map services can be combined in a targeted manner and made available to different user groups. A separate user management database reduces the effort required for access control and simplifies administration.
The VertiGIS Studio Workflow module is a central focus of the district’s investments. WebApps will help to reduce the number of WebGIS applications in the future and at the same time provide more precise applications. This will simplify the administration of the apps in future.
The VertiGIS Workflow Manager ensures that relevant services and topics are loaded automatically and always up-to-date when VertiGIS Studio Web is started. Application examples include improved user guidance, optimized search and information collection, queries and logging of owner data, as well as the targeted loading of services into the WebMap, depending on the user group.
Public/private partnership – the joint path to the future
The changeover to VertiGIS Studio Web is being carried out in close cooperation with the VertiGIS Professional Service Team, which also provides training and support during the transition process. The experience gained from previous projects will be incorporated into new WebApps, which will optimize administrative processes and benefit the citizens of the district of Schwandorf.
Peter Pollinger, employee in the information and communication technology department in the district of Schwandorf, explains: “The training in VertiGIS Workflow was challenging.
